Now that your Blackboard integration has been configured by your LMS Administrator, and you have been given your Client ID, Default Deployment ID and the Tool Provider Custom Parameter, you are now ready to finish setting up your LTI Integration. Please complete the steps below to finish the connection and confirm everything is working.
Before you begin: Make sure your Classes are already created in SolidProfessor. You will need at least one Class and one Assignment in SolidProfessor before you can deep link anything into Blackboard. If your classes are not set up yet, please do that first and then return to this article.
Log into SolidProfessor and navigate to your Instructor Tools.
Select "+ Add Integration", then "canvas.instructure.com", and hit "Add Integration".
Input your Client ID and Deployment ID. If you do not have these values, please reach out to your LMS Administrator and have them complete the initial set up noted here. Once these fields are complete, choose "Create Integration".
Now that your integration has been created, toggle to the "School Mapping" tab within your integration, and input your Tool Provider Custom Parameter into the School ID field. Then, choose "Update School Mapping".
Your LTI integration is now in a validation state. As long as your Client ID and Deployment ID fields are editable, your LTI integration is not yet complete. A successful launch of an integrated assignment is needed to validate the integration. Your next steps are to complete the handshake between SolidProfessor and Blackboard!
Make sure your Classes are already created in SolidProfessor. You will need at least one Class and one Assignment in SolidProfessor before you can deep link anything into Blackboard. If your classes are not set up yet, please do that first and then return to this article.
- Log in to SolidProfessor as an instructor and create a new class.
- Log into Blackboard Learn as an admin.
- Go to System Admin > Courses > Create Course.
- Enter the course name and course ID, then save. (You can also reuse an existing course.)
- Go to System Admin > Courses, find the course, open its chevron menu, and select Enrollments.
- Click Enroll User > Find Users to Enroll.
- Search for the user, set the Role (Instructor or Student), and submit.
- Repeat for each member. You can also enroll from inside the course:
- Ultra: open the course roster and click Enroll people.
- Original: Course Management > Users and Groups > Users > Enroll User.
Deep linking / content selection requires an Instructor (or Admin) role — students cannot build content. Enroll yourself as an instructor to place lessons; enroll a test student to verify the student experience.
Blackboard Ultra:
- Open the course. In the Content area, click the + where you want the item, then Content Market.
- Under Institution Tools, select SolidProfessor.
- The SolidProfessor deep-link picker opens. Browse to the class and select the lessons to add.
- Submit — the selected lessons are embedded as content items in the course.
Blackboard Original:
- Open the course and go to a Content Area.
- Build Content > Content Market (or the tool under the tools list) → select SolidProfessor.
- Use the same deep-link picker to choose lessons and submit.
Newly placed lessons are hidden from students by default and may show an "Approval required!" flag. Two things must be cleared:
- Approval required! This is Blackboard's link-approval policy, not a SolidProfessor restriction. Resolve it by having your LMS Administrator ensure that the tool's Domain(s) and Global Properties > Creation of Tool Provider Links is be set to "Allow links to any tool provider that isn't explicitly excluded."
- Hidden from students. Open each lesson's visibility control (the pill that reads "Hidden from students") and switch it to Visible to students.
Deep-linked lessons come in as gradable items with these defaults:

You can set points to any number — SolidProfessor scales the review-test score to that value automatically. If you leave points at "0", the synced grade will be "0" regardless of the student's score.
Note: If you allowed multiple review-test attempts when setting up the class in SolidProfessor, each new attempt replaces the previous score in the Blackboard grade book.
SolidProfessor always submits the latest score.
If you are logged into SolidProfessor in another tab/browser, close that session first so the deep-link launch lands correctly.
Click on one of your published assignments from within your Blackboard course. This creates your first launch and validates the integration.
After a successful launch, the integration will lock and show a green confirmation banner in SolidProfessor Instructor Tools.
Once your test launch is complete and the connection between SolidProfessor and Blackboard has been validated, students will be able to access the assignment within Blackboard.
